The words we use and how we construct our speech reveals volumes about us. Text analytics is already being used in marketing to predict customer behavior, such as the propensity to default on a loan, switching between brands, which movie will sell better, and how will the stock market perform.

In this fantastic TED talk Mariano Sigman explains how this is this possible and describes his own research on predicting psychosis based solely on how people talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/mariano_sigman_your_words_may_predict_your_future_mental_health/transcript#t-722168. He and his collaborators developed an algorithm that predicts with 100% accuracy the onset of schizophrenia – people who are likely to develop psychosis use the same words as everyone else, but jump much more quickly and frequently between topics (what Sigman calls semantic coherence). We can only admire studies like this that make the most of the subtle ways in which we function and express ourselves in the world to improve our well-being

My best wishes for a great day ahead!
